Though I had been working out on a regular basis since I was fourteen my health issues were not over. Toward the end of 1999 I came down with Grave’s Disease which is a Thyroid condition causing heart palpitations, digestion problems, and uncontrolled weight loss. In just three months I lost 40 pounds and had so little energy that I couldn’t live my life the way I was used to or wanted to. Over the next year I was successfully treated for the Grave’s Disease but then contracted Ulcerative Colitis. Ulcerative Colitis is an inflammation of the colon with bleeding ulcers. I nearly bled to death internally without even knowing it. Again I found myself unable to do the things I wanted, but this time I was in a lot of pain as well. I honestly believe that being physically fit over the years was the main reason I survived these two illnesses.
Kenny MillsWhile recovering from the Grave’s Disease I entered an international physique transformation contest known as the Body For Life Challenge. The 40 pounds I had lost came back very quickly and I was seeing results with almost every workout. Even though I did not win the contest some friends from church noticed my results and asked me if I could help them get in shape. At that time I was a cabinetmaker and had never thought about being a fitness trainer but I had a growing passion for health and fitness because it had served to save my life on more than one occasion. I agreed to help them get in shape and in return they paid for me to get my first certification as a fitness trainer.
In my time of fitness training I have run boot camps, trained and educated countless people of all ages & fitness levels and started teaching Shotokan Karate. I have come to believe with all of my heart that a healthy body and a healthy mind go hand in hand. My life’s mission is to help everyone I can become healthy–mind, body & soul.
